2007 Hake Yachts Seaward 26RK
The "RK" means it has a "Retracting Keel" which is raised and lowered by an electric winch
This makes it very nice for lakes and coastal sailing in shallow water, as well as easy
trailering, launching and beaching.
It's draft goes from 16 inches to 6 feet in just a few seconds.
With the low drag
lead bulb keel down it is a very stable sailer.
When we were ready to buy a new boat we wanted the biggest, roomiest, easy to rig
and sail boat that we could trailer and ramp launch.
We wanted that big boat feel with
all the comforts.
After much research we decided on the Seaward because it had
wheel steering, inboard diesel, enclosed head, and could be trailered without
special permits and ramped launched.
I have added an electric switch and solenoid system to operate the keel from the steering pedestal, rather than use the original rope system which is out of reach and difficult to operate.
I have made other additions which make sailing more enjoyable...
Larger anchor locker - I sacrificed some of the V-Berth by adding a wall made of
starboard and redirected the anchor rode into it.
The original anchor locker houses
our original rode as backup.
we now have 200 feet of anchor chain and 250 feet of rode which we
deploy and retrieve via an electric windlass.
12 Volt DC refrigeration - I converted the ice box by building and installing a refer unit
from parts.
Deck wash down pump - great for water fights and showers as well.
Extra electrical panel, monitor and batteries to handle these additions.
