| | | | Comments : Beautiful and rare Yawl rigged clipper.
Built in England, the designer, Alan Buchanan, did not spare expenses when he designed this very handsome yacht with fine hardwood interior and lots of teak on deck, cabin and cockpit,
including unheard of solid teak cockpit grates, cleats and a 6 foot, 3 inch thick solid teak
bowsprit.
Custom spray dodger.
Powered by an overhauled Westerbeke 13 hp diesel in excellent running condition with less than 275 hours, "Lady Elaine" cruises under sail at 7 to 7 1/2 kts close hauled, and handles like a yacht should, heavy but steady, with so much stability assistance from the mizzen sail and her 3300 lb keel.
This yacht was an improvement over the first design, which had a spade rudder and an underpowered 8 hp Sabb, while the MK III is full keeled and has a main mast Tabernacle for easy stepping.
Surveyed in July 06, recent
improvements have been the bowsprit stay above the water line, rebuilt Westerbeke 13 hp diesel, new alternator, new engine and scupper seacocks and hoses, new gauges and panel, new Michigan two-blade brass propeller and zinc, new mizzen topping-lift, halyards and sheets, main down-haul and halyards, 40 lb. plow anchor on bow with 180 ft. of galvanized chain and 25 lb.
Danforth as secondary.
Three life jackets, PFD, flares and rockets, two Co2 extinguishers, fenders, new Bos'n chair, sea drogue, 7 foot inflatable rubber raft with oars, new Davis tiller tamer.
New custom made sail covers, new electrical system in 2011 including all new 12 volt wiring and breaker panel on the 12 volt system.
New to the lady is a 120 volt system with lights and outlets and on board battery charger.
A new marine head with holding tank was installed in 2011. 2 - 12 volt deep cycle starting battery and house battery with isolator were installed and battery selector switch added in 2011.
Original brass 12 volt lamp in main cabin, v berth and oil lamp are still present. 12 volt florescent lamps were installed on both sides of the main cabin ceiling. 110 lighting includes 3 LED lights over the galley sink area and a florescent over the stove.
There is a new single burner non-pressurized alcohol stove.
A 12 volt bilge pump was installed in 2011; the original manual pump is still in working order in the cockpit.
The Plastimo radar reflector, Sunsei SE-400 solar charger, original cockpit lighted compass are unchanged.
The Lady has undergone an interior facelift.
The bilge has been entirely cleaned and painted using white bilge coat paint.
The lockers have also been cleaned and painted or varnished by a professional boat builder.
A lifting system for the mast was also created for the boat.
The boat is currently on a custom built tri-axle trailer and can be purchased separately.
